CLARA holds training program “Teachers: Promoters of Human Values and Social Harmony”

Faisalabad: March 4, 2010. (PCP) On February 26-27, 2010, Concern-Lane Alliance for Rural Areas (CLARA) organized a 2-days training for the capacity building of teachers titled “Teachers: Promoters of Human Values and Social Harmony” at Holy Rosary Parish Hall, Madina Town in Faisalabad, in which 38 male and female school teachers actively participated. The purpose of the training was to improve teaching skills of trainees and to encourage them to promote human values, peace, tolerance and social harmony through teaching. The trainers included Salva Rafiq (Executive Secretary-CLARA), Suneel Malik (Secretary-NCJP), James Lal, Muzammal Hussain and Mumtaz Kousar. The trainers of the training called upon the Government to invest in teachers and educational institutions for prosperous future of Pakistan. The trainers said, “Teachers are key nation builders and have direct impact on the future of the nation, therefore teachers must be goal-drive and seek to be a ‘gold mine’ of knowledge in order to upgrade the quality of teaching in schools”. “In the era of globalization, the challenges for teachers to upgrade their skills are demanding especially with the evolution in teaching methods and academic content brought about by information and communication technology”, they added. Furthermore, they shared, “there are large number of educational institutions in Pakistan which have insufficient facilities such as; toilets, drinking water, boundary walls, buildings, playgrounds, desks, books, blackboards, electricity, doors and windows, therefore Government must invest to improve the condition of education sector”. The content of the training included ‘quality education, qualities of a good teacher, role of psychology in teaching, effective use of teaching aids and lession plans, techniques for better classroom and school management, modern teaching techniques, role of sports in education, best practices and standards for professional development in teaching, accessible instructional materials (AIM) and assistive technology in the classroom, and leadership skills’.
