Karachi: March 1, 2010; (Sunny Gill reports for PCP) When 2 million Karachi Christians were praying in month of lent in Churches this Sunday, 4 Christians were in police custody facing torture to name 36 more Christian for arrests in case registered against unnamed 40 Christian in North Nazimabad Police Station, district Central Karachi after Muslim mob attack on Christian colony Pahar Ganj.
Hundreds of Muslims attacked Christian colony Pahar Ganj on February 21, 2010, burning shops, motorcycles, Auto Rickshaws and vandalizing Churches.
The Muslim mob attacked Christians after an argument between Muslim fruit vendor and Christian customer in front of entrance gate of Christian residential vicinity named Pahar Ganj in metropolitan city Karachi.
Christian customer tasted one fruit and order purchase but Muslim got angry on touching of fruit by Christian because Christians are treated untouchable in Pakistan. The Christians cannot eat in public restaurant nor can drink in glasses used by Muslims in public places.
The Muslim vendor called Muslims “Come on brothers and lets teach lesson to “Bangis” Bangi is hate word used for Christians in Pakistan weather they are rich or poor, illiterate or qualified professional. The comments of late Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party PPP may be noted who was an Oxford graduated said about legal framework prepared by late A R Cornelius, a Christian Chief Justice of Pakistan in General Yehya regime in 1970 that “Being a Muslim, I cant not accept constitutional frame work prepared by a “Dhimmi” because Christians are Dhimmi in Pakistan” The word “ Dhimmi” is Islamic term used for people who are non-Muslims and conquered after attack.
The agitated Muslims equipped with firearms and sticks entered in Christian area of Pahar Ganj and opened fire on Churches and homes which forced unarmed Christians to hide in their homes.
The Muslims vandalized Calvary Church, St Mary Church and shops of Christian inside Pahar Ganj Christian colony and injured many residents.
On February 22, 2010, when Christian leaders were holding reconciliation meeting with Muslim leaders to stop spreading of violence against other localities of Christians by Muslim groups, the area police of North Nazimabad Police Station was registering FIR against unnamed 40 Christians in rioting.
Police arrested Inayat Masih, Danish Masih, Suleman Masih and Kashi Masih on February 26, 2010, implicating them in same unnamed FIR against Christians.
The parents of four Christians are knocking at every door for release of their sons in holy month of lent when administration is of view that bail plea can be only accepted when all 40 are rounded up involved in case.
The Muslim attackers are walking free and threatening every one who comes to visit their relatives in Pahar Ganj. The Christian colony Pahar Ganj is surrounded by Pukhtton community who came from NWFP and settled in Karachi for opportunities of jobs and other business.
The Tehreek Taliban Pakistan and Afghanistan Taliban are Pukhttons and speak same Pushtu language which Muslim living in surroundings of Christian colony.
Pakistan Christian Congress Karachi Youth President Mr. Sunny Gill visited Pahar Ganj today and met with youth, Christian leaders and pastors
Ashiq Pervaiz, President of Calvary church and Mr Salamat Noor Consular of the area told Mr. Sunny Gill that this issue was only personal issue but later group of Pathan people attacked on Christian church CALVARY & Saint Mary church of Pakistan, they were with Guns, they fired on churches, burnt bike and rickshaw. They destroyed car front and back glass as well as some Christian people are injured. More then 150 people come into the church they destroyed the gate of church .
