London: February 9, 2010. (PCP) Today, at the end of his 14 days on police remand and at 10.30am, Mohammed Naeem was presented in the Magistrate Court by the police. Unfortunately, the police have still not been able to complete their full investigations and therefore Magistrate Saleem Sheikh has allowed a further 14 days after which the police must submit the findings of their investigations to the courts. As the maximum time on remand has now expired, Mohammad Naeem has been sent to jail. Also tomorrow, Naeem’s family will be appearing in court for the confirmation of their as at the moment they are on pre-arrest bail, which will also be contested by the CLAAS lawyers Tahir Gull, Tahir Bashir and Nasir Anjum who are the same lawyers who contested the case of Numan, Naveed Masih and even Ruqiya Bibi who were charged under the blasphemy law. Our lawyers are confident, and are willing to face the pressure and any consequences placed upon them from the Bar Association of Pakistan and their opponents lawyers but they still definitely need your prayers so that the Lord may give them wisdom and courage to handle this very challenging case appropriately. We must remember that the granting of their bail is dependant upon police findings so please also pray for the police and ask that God give them courage so they remain impartial and conduct their duties accordingly. CLAAS’ lawyers, Tahir Gull, Tahir Bashir and Nasir Anjum, Asher and Court clerk Aqeel were all present in the court when the Magistrate issued the judicial order from his chamber. The court room was full and as usual, the defence lawyers were demanding the charges against Naeem be dropped. This is first time that our lawyers have seen ex-presidents and also general secretaries of the Bar present in court. The Public and the media were strictly not allowed in the court room.
