ISLAMABAD, July 17. The Former Federal Minister and Chairman Peace Education Foundation (CPEF) J. Salik has demanded the government and CDA Officials would ensure the rights of CDA sanitary workers according to agreement. Alleging the private contractors were exploiting of sanitary workers and they were being failed to pay their rights in line of his salary. Addressing in a press conference at his residence here on Wednesday, he was clad in Shalwar Khameez made of nylon parachute cloth during press conference to protest against the abominable yellow parachute Uniforms provided by the CDA to the sanitary workers of Islamabad. Referring to the problems of sanitary workers, the former minister said that the plight of the sanitary workers of CDA is very heartbreaking. Mostly all of them belong to the Katchi abadis (slum areas) of Islamabad. There is no electricity in their houses and are facing the scourging heat of the summer. Since there are no fans also and this leads to sleepless nights. Their children and families are affected with diseases like malaria etc. He said that at work also they have to face the same problems. Their work is outdoors and in this soaring heat they are made to wear dong yellow nylon parachute jackets, which is totally against human dignity, despite that CDA contractor are paying them almost 1700 rupees of per month, and they deserved 2600 rupees of per month while contractors are receiving 4000 rupees on per head of the worker, he disclosed. He said that yellow colour is the symbol of hatred. This was also the colour of rubbish bins as well as that of uniform of sanitary workers, which is tantamount to promoting untouchability. Saying that our nation is already divided on the basis of class, glass and libas (Dress) division. The discriminatory treatment meted out to minorities in the federal capital will promote sense of deprivation among the minorities. The concerned authorities of CDA to take proper cognizance of the Situation, he demanded.
