HYDRABAD. July 8. Expressing doubt that a young Hindu writer, poet, journalist and social worker of Thar district of Sindh, Kirshan Sharma has been picked up by agencies, the activists of HRCP, Sindhi Adabi Sangat and his relatives have appealed to higher authorities for his release. Ms. Nasreen Shakeel the head of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Sindh Task Force, veteran politician and HRCP activist Jam Saqi, Taj Joyo former secretary and Saleem Channa councilor of Sindhi Adabi Sangat and relatives of Kirshan Sharma including his mother Leelan Bai, brother Nindlal, uncle Papoo and 7 year old son Rahul were among those who made fervent appeal during a news conference held at press club Hyderabad to President and Prime Minister of Pakistan for his release. Nindlal the brother of missing Kirshan Sharma said that Kirshan was engaged in community development work in Thar area through his NGO Ddat. He said that while he was on way from Mithi to Karachi men of agencies from Rangers check post near Naunkot picked him up on 12 March 2003 along with two other Hindus Chetan alias Teeko and Kishore. He said 3 days later newspapers contained news that HRCP activist and journalist Akhtar Baloch was picked up by agencies from Hyderabad. After strong protest by HRCP and journalists, Akhtar Baloch was let free after 3 days. He said that Akhtar Baloch told them that Field Investigation Unit (FIU) -303 of army picked up him and Sharma. He said some merchants of Mithi, Islamkot and Hub were also picked up but were under unknown pressure released after 20 days but his brother Kirshan Sharma was still under custody since 3 months. He said that his home was taken into deep grief and his mother and children continue weeping but no one was to help the family. He said that the mother in law of Kirshan Sharma died of shock she received of his arrest. He and other family members asked media to help them to know under what crime he has been taken away and help recover Sharma. Taj Joyo former secretary of Sindhi Adabi Sangat Sindh informed that Kirshan Sharma being a writer and poet was member of SAS. He said Shrma has worked as reporter in daily Dawn and other newspapers and had remained president press club Mithi. He said that there appear two reasons for his arrest. One being that he was chief agent of Ashok Ratnani PPP candidate on minority seat of Sindh Assembly and two that he gave interview to KTN TV channel in which he has opposed the killing of rare bird and animals of Thar, Peacock and deer by Rangers. They also appealed to chief minister and governor Sindh and members of national and provincial Assemblies to help release of Sharma.
