Faisalabad: December 14, 2009. (PCP) An unmarried Christian girl named Sandal aged about 22/23 years, and her father named Gulsher Masih aged about 47 years, resident of a small village known as Chack Jhumra Faisalabad were charged under blasphemy law after being accused of blasphemy on 10-10-2008. A criminal case was registered at Chack Jhumra Police Station, Faisalabad wide FIR No. 396/08 under section 295-B/109 Pakistan Penal Court against Sandal and Gulsher. The complainant of the case named Muhammad Farooq Alam, in his written application accused Sandal of defiling Quaran and throwing in the street while Gulsher Masih was accused of abetment of the Blasphemy act. At the time of accusation large number of aggressive Muslims attacked Christian colony and tortured Christians. Sandal and her father were arrested on the same day and sent to the judicial lock-up.

Mr. Tahir Khalil Sandhu advocate plead the case to defend Sandal and Gulsher from blasphemy charged. Mr. Khalil Sandhu is famous for his services to persecuted Christians especially to provide his services to those Christians who were charged under blasphemy laws.
Sandal's trial was pending in the Court of Sessions before additional and sessions judge Muhammad Ghazenfer Ali Khan. The prosecution recorded seven witnesses including the complainant of the case Muhammad Farooq Alam and Muhammad Akram the investigation officer from local police. All the witnesses tried to prove Sandal and Gulsher guilty of the charge but there were so many lacunas / loop holes in their statements that created doubt about their fabricated story of defiling the Quran. The judge gave fully benefit of doubt to Sandal and Gulsher. Consequently they both have been acquitted from the charge on 14-12-2009 after serving prison for more than 13 months. In the beginning Sandal was detained in District Jail Faisalabad and later on 26-01-2009 she was transferred to District Jail Jhang on her request to the court of sessions. The case of Sandal is a perfect case to lead many other cases for acquittal of other blasphemy accused persons detained in prisons facing blasphemy trial.
