Islamabad: Asif Ali Zardari has traditionally greeted Sikh pilgrims, Hindus and other minorities on the occasion of Christmas, Holi and now Baisakh
Faisalabad: August 28, 2009. (Pervaiz Mohabbat reports for PCP) The high profiled blasphemy case of young Christian shopkeeper Imran Masih S/O Ghafoor Masih resident of Hajweri Town Faisalabad being falsely booked under section 295-A & B PPC, in case FIR # 622/-09 Police station Sargodha Road Faisalabad. He is been provided legal services by Rao Zafar Iqbal Advocate High Court and the Executive Director of National Council for Human Rights. Before the first hearing of Imran Masih, fundamentalists directly put pressure on Rao Zafar Iqbal to quit this case with threatening calls and in person. He refused to them and finally had to suffer on 27th of July 2009 when two people directly fired on him, but he escaped and luckily saved.
Rao Zafar Iqbal was already pleading the case of Muhammad Ayub S/O Khalil Ahmed resident of chak # 204 RB Faisalabad vide case FIR # 829/08 under section 295-C being booked in police staiotn Madina Town Faisalabad on 28th of November 2008 as Muhammad Ayub claimed himself to be the prophet of God. When nobody was taking up this case, Rao Zafar Iqbal from the platform of National Council for Human Rights took up this case and provided him legal services. As the Muslim fundamentalists already had given Fatwa against M. Ayub, they targeted Rao Zafar Iqbal too and tried several times to kill him. This Fatwa was published in the newspaper Daily Express published on July 3, 3009 and daily Pavel on 4th of August 2009 in Faisalabad.
Besides Imran Masih and so many other innocent blasphemy victims, minorities in Pakistan are in high tension and pressure for which we strongly condemn and upload our voice for the abolition of Blasphemy laws in Pakistan and request the global community to play its vital role to end up with these discriminatory and in-human laws. We also appeal the government of Pakistan, civil society organizations and agencies to provide protection to Rao Zafar Iqbal advocate and his family.
