Christian Diaspora urged to intervene after attacks on Pakistani Christian: Bishop T. Nasir

Dear Dr. Nasir S. Bhatti. I was not surprised at the news of yet another attack on Christians this time in village Korian near Gojra. The memory of Kotri, Bahmni wala, Kot Lakha Sing, killing of Christian youth on Shekhupura Sukheki road and arrests under the Blasphemy Laws. This was inevitable! I warned the entire Christian community around the world in my article, "Tsunami that waits for Christians" in January 2005. Unfortunately all that has been taught to us is "Turning the other cheek" and not "buying the sword". In November 2005 I warned again when Sanglla Hill churches, Christian Institution and the houses of Christians were burnt. During 2006 demonstrations, a mob tried to attack Yahonnabad a Christian settlement on Ferozpur Road Lahore. There the Christian blocked every entrance and warned that they are ready to fight back if attacked. The mob was sent back by the Rangers but no one from the mob dared to go near. Christian have to fight back. They have right of self preservation. Most of the villages have fire arms which are drawn against each other. Yet no one has used his fire arm to stop or protect the Christian community in Pakistan. Village after village is being attacked and Christians are forced to leave. Many have shifted to cities. If we don't fight back now, there would be no Christian village left in Punjab. If villages are going to burnt only on a "Rumor" what safety does the government offer? Nothing! Some monetary help but the root cause is not dealt with iron hands. Only statements and promises would finish us from this part of the world. Protesting in from of Pakistan Embassy or High Commission will not work and it has never worked. Why can't our Christian brothers and sisters living in the West request their governments and representative to take up the issue of Christian minority in Pakistan by their respective governments with the government of Pakistan? Why can't they take a protest rally in front of Capital Building in Washington or the Parliaments building in Canada and Europe? In my opinion we must now fight back and die with honor rather crying over milk that was spilt back on 14th August 1973 when the present constitution was promulgated. Mere exchange of new is not going to do any good to the Christians of Pakistan. Bishop T. Nasir August 1, 2009.
