LARKANA: July 31, 2009. (Nazir Siyal reports for PCP) Provincial Minister for Irrigation and Power Syed Muraad Ali Shah has said that Pakistan has the best irrigation water system, which is not being utilized properly by the concerned authorities. This he said while addressing in an open open Katchehry at Kamber district Council Hall on Friday. He said, “he believe to resolve the water issues of the people on long term basis instead of short term, so that he is committed to solve the problems of growers and farming community. Provincial Minister Sindh also confessed that he should have come earlier to resolve the matters of local Abadgars, he received several complaints of concerned irrigation authorities regarding the corruption and irrigation issues, added that there are black-sheeps and white elephants in our department, they would be dealt with severe action he said. He said that all the related problems of irrigation and other issues of Kamber-Shahdadkot will be tabled to the Chief Minister Sindh for the enquiry and action. To a query about the Sindh and Balochistan water share, he said that present issue is continue for a long fifteen years and still there is no solution of the problem he said. He said Kirthar and Saifullah Magsi canals will be given their due water share according to the water accord between the provinces, added that he was facing pressure from the counterpart Balochistan Minister regarding the sufficient share from Garang Regulator he said. Minister told that according to the 1991 water accord Balochistan has rights to take 2200 Cusec water share from Kirthar canal at Garang Regulator, while Sindh has 1950 Cusec water share from Saifullah Magsi branch he said. Syed Murad Ali Shah said abandoned water has been released from Tarbella for provision of irrigation water usage; it will take about a week to reach in the area. Provincial Minister Irrigation and Power highlighted that he learned politics from his great leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, she was her ideal in politics, added that our policy of the party is to empower women in every sector and work shoulder by shoulder in every field. He said in this regard various programs have been started with objectives to eliminate poverty and generate employment through Income Support Program and youth development skills in every field. He announced a Yaadgar of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto will be constructed on entry point of Kamber city. On the occasion, large number of growers and farmers Ishaq Mugheri, Mukhtiar Shaikh, Rahim Mangi, Abdul Sattar Gopang, Faryal Brohi, Mohammed Punhal Soomro and others shouted and complained sitting irrigation authorities and other concerned departments including the Works and Services EDOs, Xen, Sub Engineers and other officials for corruption in the irrigation funds and poor excavation, repair and maintenance of canals and water channels, water courses. They complained in the open Katchehry that there millions of misappropriation in the utilization of funds of irrigation and wapda drainage and artificial water shortage in the canals, while the local people demanded to remove corrupt Secretary irrigation and other officials in Larkana region. In an Open Katchehry District Coordination Officer Kamber-Shahdadkot Zahid Hussain Memon, Chief Engineer Right Bank Agha Aijaz Pathan, Superintendent Engineer Shafqat Ali Wadho, Executive Engineer Abdul Gaffoor Soomro and other PPP leaders were present.
