Rawalpindi: July 28, 2009. (PCP report) A Pakistan Christian Congress PCC leader of Islamabad was also beaten by Muslim attackers when he tried to rescue one Christian youth on broad day light on busy road of Rawalpindi. Mr. Xavier William, coordinator of PCC Islamabad, at 9;35 AM, when driving through Muree Road to Islamabad, saw people beating one youth in front of Jang Building. He stopped by to enquire the reason of kicking a youth on busy street by more than 20 people. He was told that young boy is car lifter but youth was crying lying on street that “he is not a car lifter but with a mistake he touched other car of same color and model which he drove from home to pick photos from shop in Jang Building” Mr. Willam requested gathering to stop beating youth and asked youth to show registration of his car to clarify situation. His name was Sunil John from his identification can white care tag number was RIP 3587, white color Toyota registered in his uncle name when he was accused car lifting of same model same color car tag number 3785. Sunil John borrowed car from his visiting uncle to pick photos. When gathering of Muslims came to knew that boy is Christian and his rescuer is also Christian, they attacked both Mr. William and John and started beating and hitting them. The Journalists from offices on building also approached the scene and joined beating Mr. Xavier William and Sunil John. Instead to clarify the mistake of Sunil John, the journalists called police who took them to Waris Khan Police Station. In police station, Muslim journalist from one daily English newspaper pressed upon SHO to arrest and lodge report of car lifting against them. The Muslim journalist said to police “ Christians must be punished of mistake” on which Mr. William lodged protest before police but SHO of police ordered policemen to teach lesson to Mr. William on helping car lifters and then policemen put him under third degree torture. The used special “leather whips” used on criminals to beat Mr. William and was kicked until he became unconscious. When police was taking them to Waris Khan Police Station from Jang Group Newspaper Building, Mr. William used his cell phone to inform Inspector General Police Punjab IG to inform about beating by Muslims. The Deputy Superintendent Police DSP reached in police station who learned facts and ordered police to release Xavier William and Sunil John. There was outrage among Christians of Punjab on manhandling of Mr. Xavier by police. The Christian organizations are holding press conference in Lahore to condemn attack on Mr. William. We wish to bring on record that Pakistan Christian Congress PCC leadership have been always target of establishment in Pakistan since 1998, which forced majority of Christian leaders to fled from country. The recent move to reorganize PCC in Pakistan is under strict notice of establishment and secret agencies agents are harassing PCC leaders. Mr. Xavier William was recently nominated as Coordinator of Islamabad PCC to launch reorganization of PCC in Islamabad and capital areas.
