A review on Sindh Games in Larkana.

LARKANA: May 31, 2009. (Nazir Siyal reports for PCP) Today is the final of 12th Sindh Games in Larkana among the 24 men and 11 women events with four regional have been contested by the teams comprising of 2500-3000 players along with coaches and organizers from five regions of the province including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and host Larkana, are continue in action in the different games in four days. On the occasion athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, bodybuilding, boxing, cycling, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, karate, netball, squash, swimming, table tennis, tae Kwando, tennis, throw ball, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu while the female athletes are engaged in the disciplines of athletics, badminton, basketball, hockey, karate, netball, softball, table tennis, throw ball and volleyball and other traditional games are scheduled battale among the teams. Sindh sports minister Dr Muhammad Ali Shah inaugurated the games and lighted an Olympic torch in the opening ceremony of 12th Sindh Games 2009 at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Stadium Larkana. Whereas, the Sindh chief minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah is also the chief guest at the closing ceremony of 12th Sindh Games 2009 at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Municipal Stadium Larkana, he will distribute prizes/shields among the successful winners and runners in 12th Sindh Games here on Sunday (today). A record hot weather about 50 Celsius was recorded which affected the indoor and outdoor games in four days and scorching heat on the 12 th Sindh Games, resulted 30 male and female players among the organizers, coaches were also fainted and hospitalized, later Hepatitis in the players was reported. A mismanagement and poor arrangements hit the Games before the start, the participants were not properly facilitated and accommodated as the millions of funds were not disclosed yet, the hot weather hit the participants of Sindh Games here in Larkana and no proper guidance to the media also. The players criticized the organizers for conducting Sports activities in May and June, turned it as the budget may lapsed so that Sindh Government sports department had to use in May before the budget, while the participants of Sindh games continue protesting for non facilitation and proper accommodation and honorarium to the players of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Karachi, Sukkur and Larkana regions. It was also noted that there was no authoritarian of District Government/Administration, were neglected as EDO Sports Larkana was unknown from all deeds done by the representatives of Sindh Olympic Association, Sports related authorities along with sports officials in Larkana, which also was witnessed an ill planning and lack of coordination with district administration. Probably, the officials were unknown about the funds hidden by Sports authorities, could not disclosed even at last day by Sindh Sports ministry. The Larkana, a home town of former Prime ministers ZA Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, had two sports complexes and two stadiums and police training center used for hold indoor and out door games, were in miserable condition, there was no lighting arrangements, ground worst condition and other basic facilities for the sports activities were not made properly. Millions of an Astroturf and other sports work has been done at Khuhro Complex, which is also a substandard work done by the sports ministry, told few players. The provincial minister sports and well known Dr. Shah had performed an inauguration of Astroturf at the Khuhro Complex on May 28, who claimed of having fulfilled his promise that he had made it about a month back during Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Inter-district Tournaments was organized at Larkana. The Sindh Minister for Sports, Dr. Mohammed Ali Shah, on 12th Sindh Games opening at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto stadium and Khuhro Sports Complex in Larkana, said “The promotion of sports is actually a fight against crime, the strategy of building infrastructure projects all over the districts of the province is the objective for the people could access to better sporting facilities,” Dr Shah announced millions of projects to develop the hockey grounds and other sports activities, the Sindh Games go a long way in promoting sports from the grassroots level and he was eager to have it on a regular basis he said. it is also pertinent to be mentioned here that before this, billions of amount have been spent on the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Stadium, Shaikh Zaid Stadium and Khuhro Complex Larkana for better sports facilties and infrastructure by the Sindh Sports Board, District Government, Federal Government, Pakistan Cricket Board and other departments but all in vain and the miserable conditions of all stadiums and complex is witnessed every player in Larkana. Journalists Community in Larkana condemned the misconduct by PRO to Minister Sports regarding the coverage on choice and criticism by the media persons for poor arrangements in the hot weather as well media center. On the occasion, media men were not properly informed about the events at various places, while media persons criticized non facilitation of internet and other facilitations at media center set up at one location at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Stadium Larkana, on the occasion Sports official tried to influence on choice coverage and shouted on few of media persons. On the occasion, Journalists Community condemned the behavior of Public Relation Officer to Minister, Hamid Ali Khan, who tried to influence on Journalists. Journalists of Larkana condemned the PRO that a minister must not consider the media persons as his slaves, who may be used according to his choice. The official PRO of Minister should behave with responsibilities and maintain minimum honour to the media. It is pertinent to be mentioned here that the local media persons were kept away in the sports activities, while the participants of Sindh Games have also irks on the arrangements of participants of the event. Reports said about 250 to 3000 athletes took part in the games. Mismanagement and poor arrangements hit the Games. Dozens athletes including 30 women participants have been fainted due to hot weather, whereas organizers and coaches are also among the affectees in high temperature in Larkana. During the 12th Sindh Games poor interest was seen among the players they have criticized Sports arrangements were made in hot weather.
