Faisalabad: Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) expresses deep concern and strong condemnation over the case of Maria Shahbaz, a 13-year-old Christi
Shiekhupura, Pakistan : April 21, 2009. (Jawad Mazhar reports for PCP) A Christian girl in her early teens has been gang raped by two (02) Muslim men here at a village known as Gumhe-k-Lidhur at outskirts of Sangla Hill district of Shiekhupura City near provincial metropolis Lahore in Pakistan’s Punjab Province. Pakistan Christian Post established from the recounts of local villagers and an eye witness, who revealed the facts on condition of anonymity.
Ambreen Munir 13, who was subjected to this brutal and sinister act, is daughter of an extremely impoverished Christian laborer Munir Masih and his spouse Naziraan Munir, a housewife, as well as, works as a domestic servant in the village. Sources told Pakistan Christian Post that Ambreen Munir’s elder sister Assia and one of her younger brothers also serve as domestic worker at the residences of rich and powerful Muslim landlords of their village, like their mother do.
Ambreen Munir 13 was allegedly kidnapped by two Muslim youth and later taken to a lonely neighborhood, where both the Muslim lads raped her turn by turn, though their helpless prey repeatedly pleaded for mercy. The Muslim boys who were later identified only by their nicknames as Qaloo and Qakku trussed up her hands and wadded her mouth with cotton to keep her making shout for help or rescue. Both the wild Muslim youth took turns and raped her continuously for almost two hours. And then let her go home and threatened of dire consequences, to force her to refrain from sharing her ordeal with her parents or relatives.
Local villagers also said that this was the second time that these Muslim youth raped her. In the first incident three Muslim youth had raped her after abducting and taking her at their farmhouse on Feb 05th.
According to the statement of the family members of the Christian rape victim, Local Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the suspected rapists of Christian girl Ambreen Munir 13.
However, before taking the Case to the Police, Muslim eminent villagers under the chair of Village headman decided to set up a village Public Jury (VPJ) and prosecute the rapists, Christian Villagers added, despite being repeatedly summoned by the Village Public Jury (VPJ), the accused did not appear before the VPJ. And therefore VPJ could neither proceed nor prosecute the alleged rapists. Due to the intervention of VPJ Police could not take action against the Muslim rapists.
