The Catholic Church must be prepared in Upholding Workers Faith. Cajetan Peter D, Souza

India: April 8, 2009. (PCP) The recent recession has broken the hopes of many workers who have lost their jobs and returning back to their hometowns. This is the time when these workers should uphold their faith particularly in developing a trust that will safeguard their faith. Instead of having a lethargic approach towards their faith and families they should work to build a strong rapport with God in upholding their faith. The Catholic Church must look into enriching and empowering these workers not just by their homilies but also encourage them to form a community and promote small scale businesses that will help them in their progress. This is the time when the Church faces a mammoth challenge of empowering the laity in upholding the faith. Instead of having a lethargic approach towards their faith, they should work to build a strong rapport with God in upholding their faith. Many workers find themselves trapped when they are finding themselves in a hopeless state with unemployment and frustration. The Catholic Church must look into enriching and empowering these workers not just by their homilies and regularly visits to these workers and their families but also encourage them to involve themselves in pastoral associations & Small Christian Communities which will keep them occupied. They could also start self-help groups in the parish and help other unemployed people in the parish. The Catholic Church should be prepared for such challenges. The similar happened in 1990 when the Government introduced the new Government & labour policies which left many workers jobless, but couldn’t fully address the problem. This problem should be addressed universally before frustrated workers either commit suicide or take up criminal measures to make their ends meet.
