Police implicates Christian youth in false case

Sargodha, Pakistan: April 5, 2009. (Jawad Mazhar for PCP) A Christian youth was falsely implicated into the bootlegging case, detained and sent to jail by Factory Area Police of Sargodha, on March 30th, said father talking to PCP. In another such incident, an asthmatic Christian inmate died in District Jail Sargodha, on March 20th, PCP established from the statement of the wife of the deceased Christian man. Talking to PCP Ashiq Masih the father of Christian youth Ashir Masih alias Janno said: on March 30th Factory Area Police of Sargodha City falsely implicated his son into Bootlegging case, under articles 3/4 (Drug Eradication Act (DEA)). Masih said that his son is innocent and Police have implicated him into this case (First Information Report (FIR) # 86/2009) thinking impoverished Christian would not be able to defend him self in the court of law. He alleged that Police have registered a fake case against his son merely to meet their target of registering maximum number of Cases. When contacted, Police said, they raided and arrested Ashir Masih alias on a tip-off by a police tout.. Police also claimed that the suspect was illegally selling liquor and they recovered two bottles (1liter each) from the custody of the suspect. However, they could not produce the bottles before PCP. Elizabeth, the wife of the deceased asthmatic Christian inmate Yaqub Masih alias Billu, told PCP that despite the fact that Police could not recover any drugs from her late husband, Elizabeth added, Factory Area Police Sargodha implicated her spouse in a drug dealing case on March 12th. She said that during the Police raid, she had pleaded to the Police to let her husband go because he was a chronic asthmatic patient. Elizabeth said Police sent him to jail where he died of asthma due to the negligence of the Jail Medical Staff, on March 20th. Elizabeth said that she has registered a murder case against the Jail Superintendent and Jail Doctor. She also said that after her husband’s death, she is in appalling condition.
