Sheila (Pala) Augustine, 86, of La Crosse died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in La Crosse.
USA: March 3, 2009. Shelia Augustine, mother of Rev. Canon Dr. Patrick P Augustine, passed away on February 18, 2009, to rest with almighty Lord Jesus for ever, leaving behind grieved family members in USA and Pakistan. The celebration is her memory were venue at La Cross led by Rev. Dr. Augustine.
Sheila Augustine was born Jan. 25, 1923, in the village of Bethlehem, Pakistan, to a Christian family. Prior to her marriage, she was trained and served as a primary school teacher and midwife. In 1949, she married Barkat Masih Augustine, who was the rural dean and archdeacon of the Anglican Diocese of Lahore, Pakistan. After her marriage her work was overseeing adult literacy centers, where women in the villages could learn to read the Bible and write. She also led the Mothers’ Union of the Deanery.
God blessed the Augustines with three childen, Patrick Pervez, Peter John and Avais Charlotte.
Sheila Augustine was predeceased by her husband in 1980 in Lahore, Pakistan.
She is survived by two sisters, Zenith and Naseem, in Pakistan; as well as her children and eight grandchildren, sons, Patrick (Myra) and Peter (Lily), and daughter, Avais (Azim) Sarwar; grandchildren, Shahroon and Yahkub Augustine, Sarah, Shalim and Zarah Augustine and Sumaira and Natasha Sarwar, all of La Crosse, and Gibran Augustine of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Christ Episcopal Church, 111 N. Ninth St., La Crosse. The Rev. Patrick Augustine, assisted by the Rev. Peter Augustine. Burial took place in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse.
She lived the life of a faithful servant of Christ.
